A/C Technician Mechanic:

Immediate opportunity for EXPERIENCED heavy duty, vehicle A/C technician.  Candidates with experience on mobile AC units and/or bumper to bumper repairs on highway trucks preferred.  Technician will install, repair, overhaul and maintain air conditioning units on heavy duty vehicles and equipment. Fabrication and welding experience a plus.

We are a full-service repair facility working on engine overhauls and maintenance for diesel engines, heavy-duty transmissions, and/or related equipment used in the operation of trucks, generators, buses and other equipment, as well as AC.

  • Will perform quality repairs and maintenance on all Heavy Truck, Bus and off road equipment as specified in manufacturer designed procedures or accepted industry practices.
  • Candidate will accurately complete all paperwork including repair information on work orders, Dedication and adherence to all company and industry safety standards.
  • Candidate must have own tools and reliable transportation.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of HVAC repair and maintenance experience in a heavy truck / fleet dealership / on-site or shop environment.
  • One or more factory trained certifications preferred.
  • Possess own hand tools to perform work on all systems on diesel equipment.
  • Knowledge on A/C system, and diagnostics / trouble shooting ..
  • Basic computer skills with ability to use diagnostic programs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes night and weekend shifts (No Sundays).
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and MVR check.

Job description:

Air conditioning mechanic specializing in mobile HVAC service, repairs, and installation.  ASE, MACS, & EPA 609 (for the safe removal of R-134a refrigerant) certifications will be required after training. 608 Certification a plus. Ideal candidates should possess strong work ethic and ability to work long hours during the summer season.  Also requires basic knowledge of mechanic hand tools and mechanic tools per our list.

This position is primarily seasonal and will require long hours in the spring/summer/fall months, with less work hours available during the winter as the majority of our business services are needed during the warmer weather months.

Health Insurance benefits will be offered after 90 days of full-time probationary employment.

Meet Sherwood Wheeler of AGCO, Inc.

MACS is fortunate to have a diverse group of members. People who work on many different vehicles and products that use mobile A/C and engine cooling system technology. Meet Sherwood Wheeler, a supervisor of dealer technical support at AGCO, Inc. in Hesston, KS.

Farming runs in Sherwood’s blood, he explains, I grew up on the family farm in southeast North Carolina, so working on and around farm machinery came naturally. I attended North Carolina State University at Raleigh and continued on the family farm until I went to work for the local farm equipment dealer before joining AGCO’s technical services and support department.”


Sherwood has been a MACS member for 11 years and explains, “Being a MACS member allows me to stay aware of SAE standards and governmental regulations that affect mobile A/C, learn about new A/C equipment technology to assist the service technician and there is always the added benefit of networking with others that share a common interest in the mobile/C industry. In addition, MACS is focused on keeping its members informed in many different ways. They invite knowledgeable speakers from within the industry to present and conduct workshops at its annual conference and trade show. MACS keeps me informed through their newly launched mobile app, ACtion magazine, Service Reports and announcements about upcoming a/c training opportunities.”

We asked Sherwood what is the most important thing to be aware of with A/C systems in agricultural vehicles and he said, “Checking and servicing the A/C system on a regular basis is the most important thing, but unfortunately servicing is overlooked many times. Because of the harsh environment that ag vehicles work in, condensers and evaporators can become plugged with dirt and debris which directly affects system performance.”


Sometimes interesting situations arise from the field, Sherwood recalls one particularly troubled caller, “The most unusual a/c repairs are typically the small items that get overlooked or the person working on the system does not understand some basic principles. For example, I remember a service technician calling and complaining that he had just installed the second replacement A/C compressor, but still had the same problem of excessive high side head pressure. He explained that before he installed a third compressor, he decided to make a call for some advice. After discussing the causes for high, high side pressure and the importance of good air flow across the condenser, the light bulb seemed to come on in his head when he realized that there was nothing wrong with the original compressor when he ended the call by asking, who is going to pay for the two replacement compressors.”

Sherwood’s advice to his peers is, “Never stop learning.”
