MACS Leader Led Mobile A/C
Training Classes
MACS instructors are
available to come to your facility to teach courses on professional
mobile A/C service and repair and other automotive systems. MACS can
customize classes to fit your specific requirements, combining elements
from all of our mobile A/C curriculums to create courses specific to
your organization’s training needs.
MACS can also teach classes at your facility remotely via webinar. A
webinar means your techs watch the presentation on a special website on
the internet and listen and communicate with the instructor by
telephone. All costs is dependent on location, number of students
attending and hours of instruction. For more information on MACS
training in your facility e-mail macsworldwide@macsw.org or
call the MACS office at (215) 631-7020 x304.
Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification
(Section 609)
All technicians opening the
refrigeration circuit in automotive air conditioning systems must be
certified in refrigerant recycling and recovery procedures to be in
compliance with Section 609 of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. The
MACS onsite training and certification program consists of an
audio-visual presentation of EPA approved recovery and recycling
procedures, distribution of the MACS certification training manual
followed by a 25-question, closed book test. Can also be taught via
webinar.
Best
Practices: Automotive Air Conditioning
System Theory, Diagnosis, and Service Procedures
This course describes “Best Practices” service and
repair methods pertaining to mobile A/C systems. When adhered to, the
procedures outlined in this program should help assure more accurate
diagnoses, high-quality long lasting repairs, reduction of comebacks and
increased customer satisfaction. Its “Boot Camp” style
approach delivers “everything you need/nothing you
don’t” in a fast-paced, highly informative manner. Major
subjects the course covers include:
-
A/C
Systems: What They Do and How They Do It
-
A/C
System Components: Description and Operation
-
A/C
System Refrigerants and Oils
-
Essential A/C System Service Practices and
Precautions
Mobile A/C System Temperature
Testing class, attendees will learn how to use temperature
readings taken at various locations throughout an A/C system, to
pinpoint problems. This in-depth program was developed by placing
“bugs” in systems (both orifice tube and expansion valve)
that simulate often-encountered real world situations. All
“normal/good” and “abnormal/bugged” conditions
were photographically documented. The “results” of the bugs,
when matched up with the temperature readings taken, show how things
like under/over charge, internal restrictions, blocked cabin air filters
and condensers, and other improper conditions, affect A/C system
performance and operation. Armed with the knowledge from this program,
when confronted with similar circumstances in the field, technicians
will have a good understanding concerning how to proceed with
authoritative diagnosis and effective repair.
Electrical Functions in Air Conditioning
The
electrical functions program covers the fundamentals of electricity as
applied in automotive systems. Specific air conditioning electrical
components are discussed in detail. Also covered are test instruments,
electrical circuit operations and schematics, operation of A/C
electrical components and battery/charging system testing. Completion of
this program will prepare automotive technicians to approach some of the
more difficult electrical challenges. Much of the material in this
course is directly applicable to other electrically-operated vehicle
systems.
Maximizing Your A/C Tools and Equipment
What’s the right
tool for the job? This course delivers an in-depth hands-on look at how
to select and use the right tool for the job during a mobile A/C repair.
Tools covered include; refrigerant identifiers, electronic leak
detectors, ultraviolet dye type leak detection systems, CFC-12
recovery/recycling machines, HFC-134a recovery/recycling machines,
CFC-12 manifold gauges, HFC-134a manifold gauges, vacuum pumps,
refrigerant weighing scales and/or charging cylinders, various
temperature measuring devices, such as dial thermometers, digital
pyrometers, infrared thermometers, etc., digital multi-meters, scan
tools, hose repair crimping tools, spring lock coupling disassembly and
service tools, A/C service fitting service tools, orifice tube service
tools, cooling system pressure testers, cooling system flush and
recycling equipment, compressor clutch service tools, hand held vacuum
pumps, battery/charging system testers, charging/service hose sets,
coolant refractometers, heat guns, and recovery only machines. Shop must
provide the equipment. Can also be taught via webinar.

State of
Wisconsin (Only) Mobile A/C Regulations ATCP 136
The state
of Wisconsin has its own code of regulations for mobile A/C service and
repair shops and technicians who work in them. MACS is an approved
trainer for the ATCP 136 regualtions. Wisconsin certification is a
leader led class and cannot be achieved in self-study. Most commonly
this class would be taught concurrently with a U.S. EPA Section 609
certifcation class.
