The MACS Section 609 Proctor/Trainer Program

 

Section 609 of the U.S. Clean Air Act of 1990 requires that all mobile service technicians opening the refrigeration circuit in automotive air conditioning systems be certified in refrigerant recovery and recycling procedures.

MACS offers the opportunity to qualified individuals to become MACS Section 609 certification proctor-trainers.

 

MACS Section 609 Proctor/Trainer Requirements

 

• Proctor/Trainer applicant must be Section 609 certified through MACS Worldwide.

• Fill-out the downloadable MACS Proctor/Trainer application and fax to the MACS office at (215) 631-7017, e-mail to info@macsw.org or mail to MACS Worldwide P.O. Box 88   Lansdale, PA 19446. The cost of the instructor program is:

$59.95 – for the soft kit, which consists of a download of the presentation, a trainer’s certificate, tests and training manuals

$109.00 – for the hard kit, which consists of the training presentation on CD, Training Script, a trainer’s certificate, tests and training manuals. There is a $10.00 shipping charge for the hard kit.

• When you have been approved as a Proctor/Trainer you may order tests and test booklets.

• Tests must be returned with payment of $15 per test. Class fees should be paid with one check or a credit card. (If individual checks or money orders are provided from the students in the class the cost of each test becomes $17.50.)

• The state of  Wisconsin has additional certification requirements for technicians.

                                                                                                        
The MACS proctored Section 609 Certification training seminar consists of both a video and PowerPoint presentation on CD, and the distribution of the MACS certification training manual. The test is a 25-question closed book test. The Proctor/Trainer then collects the tests and submits them to the MACS office. The tests are graded by an independent scoring facility which reports the results to MACS. If a passing score is obtained, MACS mails a certificate and a laminated wallet-sized identification card to the technician. The technician is then certified to purchase R-12 and perform service on mobile A/C systems. If the test is not successfully passed, the technician receives a second test (with different questions) at no additional charge. Tests are available in English and Spanish. The fee per test is $15.
